Man admits raping child younger than 13

CONEWANGO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A southern tier man has admitted he preyed on a child less than 13-years-old.

Carl Barbera of Chaffee pleaded guilty on Tuesday to first degree rape in an incident that occurred in May of 2012 in the Town of Conewango. Authorities say the 34-year-old engaged in sexual intercourse with the child.

In October of 2011, Barbera was pulled over by State Police with a 16-year-old in his car. Troopers found pills and marijuana in the car. Barbera later pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of marijuana.

He will be sentenced on the sexual abuse charges in December.
