BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Buffalo man pleaded guilty Wednesday morning, to illegally obtaining credit card numbers and absconding before he could be sentenced.
Fifty-one-year-old Leland Burks admitted to using the credit card numbers he illegally obtained from unsuspecting victims and using them to make purchases of liquor, hotel rooms, Shea's Buffalo tickets and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra tickets. The loss to local merchants is approximately $15,000.
The District Attorney's Office says Burks initially pleaded guilty in November, 2011, but absconded before he could be sentenced. After a manhunt, he was arrested in August.
Burks is charged with first-degree scheme to defraud and second-degree bail jumping. He could face a maximum prison sentence of 12 years when he is sentenced in November.
