ATLANTA (AP) - A New York man has been sentenced in federal court in Atlanta to more than 17 years in jail on charges related to gun trafficking.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Charles Horton of Buffalo was convicted in May of being a felon in possession of firearms, transporting guns from Georgia to New York without a license, and using straw purchasers to make false statements to gun dealers.

Prosecutors say Horton is a convicted felon who was prohibited from possessing firearms. He recruited four women to be straw purchasers and drove them to buy guns at stores in Georgia and South Carolina.

Some of the guns were found at crime scenes in Buffalo.

Horton was sentenced to 17 years, one month in prison. That will be followed by three years of supervised release.
