BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York man has been sentenced to two years in prison for trying to strangle his girlfriend last year.
Namon Kitchen of Buffalo could have gotten up to seven years in prison, the punishment sought by prosecutors at his sentencing Monday in state Supreme Court.
The 48-year-old former corrections officer pleaded guilty in September to strangulation and assault. The Erie County District Attorney's office says he admitted to hitting the victim in the face several times, stuffing a pillowcase into her mouth and strangling her until she lost consciousness.
Kitchen was arrested five months later in Ohio.
The Buffalo News reports that the victim spoke in court Monday and told the judge she still fears Kitchen and what he might do after his release.
