BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A man wants to run a gun store from his own home, it’s an issue that has residents on Buffalo’s east side up in arms. His message brought resistance from neighbors last week, now the man is taking his plan to the Buffalo Zoning Board.
When Howard Slaughter shared his proposal to sell guns from his Adams Street home , residents did not embrace the idea.
One resident said, “We've had enough of killings and people being hurt in this community by guns.”
Another resident said, “The mayor is trying to curb gun violence in the city. And this is not going to help.”
The man’s former next-door neighbor said, “It's the blemish that's going to be on our community once again.”
Slaughter will take his plan before the Buffalo Zoning Board, Wednesday afternoon. Slaughter’s customers would have to pass a background check, and show a valid pistol permit.
Slaughter, of Vernal’s Arms Sales, said, “I am an NRA-certified pistol and rifle instructor. I want to start my own business, retailing in firearms, here in our community.”
Slaughter’s rezoning meeting at City Hall is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
