BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man in prison for attempted rape admits that he tried to pay $10,000 while behind bars to have the victim killed.
Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita III says 27-year-old Brendon Berndt of Peekskill pleaded guilty Friday to a conspiracy charge that could add 25 years to his current 3- to 3 ½-year sentence.
Prosecutors say Berndt was convicted of first-degree sex abuse in Westchester County and was imprisoned at Gowanda Correctional Facility outside Buffalo when he tried to hire an undercover state police investigator to murder his victim.
Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 20.
