LeROY, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies have arrested two suspected copper thieves they say caused over $32,000 in damage at the Dolomite facility in LeRoy.
Michael Nicometo, 28, of LeRoy and Jonathan Smoak, 22, of Batavia are both charged with third degree burglary, third degree grand larceny and second degree criminal mischief. The Genesee County Sheriff's Office says over the last two months, the pair have stolen large amounts of copper wire from the facility's existing electrical system, causing extensive damage.
Nicometo was arrested on Wednesday and after being arraigned was taken to the Genesee County Jail on $10,000 bail. Smoak was arrested the following day and after arraignment was released under the supervision of the Genesee County Justice.
On Friday, 18-year-old Joseph Paul Pratt was taken into custody in connection with the thefts. He is facing the same charges as Nicometo and Smoak. After arraignment, he was released on his own recognizance.
Authorities are continuing to investigate.
