NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - A man was seriously injured after a hit-and-run accident on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls Police say 58-year-old John Watson was struck in front of the Motel 6 around 6:30 p.m. Authorities say Watson was in the center lane or turning lane while crossing the Boulevard near Niemel Drive when he was hit by a Chevy Monte Carlo driven by 43-year-old Mark Brown. Police say Brown drove off but two witnesses got a clear description of the vehicle.
Authorities caught up to Brown a few hours later on 87 th Street. His vehicle was seized and he was arrested and charged with DWI, leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, vehicular assault and tampering with evidence.
Niagara Falls Police Officer James VanEgmond said, "One of the witnesses followed the vehicle for approximately three quarters of a mile. When we did get the license plate from the vehicle it shows an older model Chevy Monte Carlo or Chevy Lumina is what they described it as, the witness. It was maroon in color. It has front end damage and the windshield was also damaged."
Watson was taken to ECMC with internal injuries, head injuries and a fractured leg. He is currently in stable condition.
Police say additional charges may be pending.
