Police identify teen stabbed, burned

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A community has been rattled after the body of a 16-year-old Buffalo man was found stabbed and burned in North Buffalo.

Police are working to learn more about Darren Brown's grisly murder. The Colvin-Taunton neighborhood where Brown's body was discovered in a field along old railroad tracks is still reeling. The teen was found Friday evening by a man walking his dog.

Carlton Sanders, who moved to the neighborhood from the east side, said he is now restricting areas where his little brothers can play.

"Right now I just want them in the house just to be safe, I mean, I barely want them to be out right now," he said.

Police believe this was not a random killing, and that the killer knew the victim. They aren't saying much more.

But the horrible nature of this crime has children in the neighborhood concerned about their own safety.

One young teen told News 4, "It kind of scares me because it means if I walk outside, there's no telling to what could happen to me."

Crimes like this did not use to happen in this North Buffalo community.

Ed Kowalski said, "It's scary. I keep my doors locked, let's put it that way. We used to keep our doors opened. We never locked them around here."

Bill Hoock added, "I hope they catch the culprits that did this and give them their justice."

Sources tell News 4 that Brown's last known address was in the Fruit Belt section of Buffalo and that drugs may have played a role in his murder.
