ALDEN, N.Y. (WIVB) - State Police made several arrests between April 4th and April 7th, for DWI and drugs. The first arrest was two Orchard Park residents who were arrested on drug charges. On Wednesday around 9:45 p.m, a trooper stopped a vehicle in the Village of Alden for speeding and having a broken tail lamp. The vehicle’s occupants, 22-year-old Robert McNerney and 50-year-old Joanne McNerney, allegedly had marijuana, hydrocodone and diazepam in their possession. They were arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and controlled substance not in its original container as well as vehicle and traffic charges.
Thursday just before 6 p.m. a trooper stopped 28-year-old Rene Brochu, of Alden, for speeding. While police interviewed Brochu, the trooper smelled marijuana and then located a plastic jar with marijuana inside the vehicle. Brochu was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana and speeding.
Later Thursday, around 9:30 p.m, State Police stopped a vehicle on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park. The driver, 41-year-old Kelly Ignasiak, of Elma, was stopped for speeding and failing to keep right. Police say Ignasiak refused to submit a chemical test and was arrested for DWI. Ignasiak will also face a NYS Department of Motor Vehicles hearing for her chemical test refusal.
About an hour later in the Town of Clarence, troopers responded to a report of suspicious activity in the Sheridan Hill Elementary School parking lot. Troopers saw a black BMW with two people inside. The teen occupants were found to have marijuana. There were arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana.
Early Friday morning, a trooper responded to the Rite Aid on Main Street in Akron, for a shoplifting report.
Troopers say an investigation revealed that 28-year-old Michael Patnode, of Akron, shoplifted items from the store totaling about $41. Patnode was arrested and taken into custody for petit larceny, and his vehicle was impounded. Then, state police say a pipe with marijuana in it were located in the console of the vehicle. Je was additionally arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana.
Around 4:30 p.m. Friday, troopers responded to a report of a minivan pulling skateboarders on Ledge Lane, in Clarence. Police say the vehicle was quickly located and while interviewing the driver, police say a glass pipe with marijuana inside of it in the center console. Police say the pipe and a small plastic bag with marijuana inside of it belonged to passenger 21-year-old Kyle Beiter, of Buffalo. Beiter was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana.
About 15 minutes later, a trooper stopped a vehicle on the 400 Expressway, in West Seneca, where 30-year-old John Handyside was allegedly not wearing a seat belt. As the trooper approached the vehicle, passenger 25-year-old Magnolia Kirlis allegedly made several movements to hide something. After seeing this, the trooper approached the vehicle on the passenger side and say what he believed to be illegal narcotics, that was later found to be heroin. Kirlis was arrested for five counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, two counts of a controlled substance not in its original container, and possession of a hypodermic instrument. The driver was also found to be in possession of heroin and was subsequently arrested for three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and possession of a hypodermic instrument.
Friday around 8 p.m. Troopers stopped a vehicle that was traveling without headlights on. Police say they interviewed the driver, 55-year-old Leslie Claypool, of Arcade, who was found to allegedly have a .13% blood alcohol concentration. Claypool was charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated because of a prior DWI conviction within the previous 10 years.
Later Friday, a trooper stopped a vehicle on Elm Street in Buffalo for running a red light. Police say they interviewed the driver, 36-year-old Kenny Sherwood, who was found to be drunk. Sherwood allegedly submitted a blood test revealing a .19% BAC. Sherwood was charged with aggravated DWI.
