LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - Lockport Police say a driver who had an infant in her car admitted taking narcotics before being pulled over for speeding and nearly running a red light.

Officers on patrol around 5 p.m. on Thursday say they saw Bethany Turner, 26, speeding down Washburn Street and then slamming her brakes when she approached a red light at High Street. Turner was pulled over and police say she had red, glassy eyes and slurred speech. Officers say Turner was overly nervous and visibly shaking.

Turner had an infant in the back seat and her license was already under suspension. Police say she admitted taking narcotics a short time before driving and turned over morphine pills and a suboxone strip.

Turner failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation, unreasonable speed, aggravated felony DWI under Leandra's Law, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The infant was turned over to her father.
