Police say man dragged puppy behind car

HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania man is facing charges after he allegedly dragged a puppy behind his vehicle for more than a mile.

Police say 71-year-old Honesdale resident Peter Ivosevic brought the 4-month-old German Shepherd mix to a shelter on Monday with extensive injuries. The Citizens' Voice reports he said the injuries were the result of an accident.

Police say a cable tie connected the dog's collar to the bumper of the vehicle. They say they were able to calculate how long it was dragged by tracking blood on the road.

The puppy, named Dog, has undergone surgery to remove his ear and treat a severe head wound. It's expected to recover.

Ivosevic faces two counts of animal cruelty. The telephone rang unanswered Thursday at a listing in his name.
