CLYMER, N.Y. (WIVB) - U.S. Marshals have taken Anthony Robert Taglianetti, the man the Chautauqua County Sheriff says murdered the Clymer School Superintendent, into custody.
Police agencies from WNY to Virginia had been on the lookout for the 42-year-old in connection with the murder of 51-year-old Keith Reed. U.S. Marshals announced Friday night Taglianetti was taken into custody in VA around 4 p.m. after deputies spotted his car and initiated a traffic stop, surrounding his car to ensure he didn't escape. The former Marine was taken into custody without incident.
It is believed Taglianetti had been sleeping in the Shenandoah National Park to avoid detection, which is about 100 miles from his hometown of Woodbridge.
Reed was murdered Friday night, though his body wasn't discovered until Monday, when a K9 unit found Reed in his lawn about 100 yards from his home. He had been shot multiple times.
Authorities have not released a motive in the fatal shooting, but sources tell News 4 there was a love triangle involving Taglianetti's wife, Mary Jenks Taglianetti, and Reed. The Taglianettis had been separated. Sources say Taglianetti came to WNY specifically to murder Reed after finding racy text messages between the superintendent and Mary.
Sources also tell News 4 that police were pointed to Taglianetti by his wife, who told authorities her husband wanted to murder the Clymer superintendent. News 4 is told Mary Jenks Taglianetti was being protected by authorities as the search for her husband continued.
Authorities told News 4's, the suspects wife called the sheriff's office last Wednesday asking if Keith Reed had died, and then said, "I think my husband did it."
Neighbors tell WJLA-TV they've noticed Taglianetti "behaving oddly at times," lately.
The Marine Corps in Quantico confirms, Taglianetti recently resigned from his job there, as a historian. We know Taglianetti served with the Marine Corps in the 90s. WRC-TV in Washington reported he received advanced firearms and sniper training, and there were concerns Taglianetti was armed.
Two Chautauqua County Sheriff's investigators are in Virginia working with the Prince William County Sheriff's Office. U.S. Marshals say they will turn Taglianetti over to NY law enforcement.
Late Friday night, a warrant was issued for Taglianett's arrest on second degree murder charges. He will appear before a VA judge for an extradition hearing before being returned to Clymer.
