Seven ticketed during opening weekend

SHELDON, N.Y. (WIVB) - State Police issued seven violations in Wyoming County during opening weekend of gun season.

Troopers working alongside DEC Police issued the following violations:

26-year-old Nicholas Hoffman of Perry - charged with the illegal taking of an antlered deer and hunting over bait in a field off Burns Road in Warsaw

70-year-old Gerald Miller of Varysburg - charged with failure to tag a deer and illegal taking of a deer in a field off Maxon Road in Sheldon

40-year-old Mark Miller of Varysburg - charged with failure to tag a deer in a field off Maxon Road in Sheldon

22-year-old Calvin Cutcliffe of Warsaw - charged with failing to accompany two youth hunters. Police say Cutcliffe allowed two 15-year-olds to hunt from different tree stands located several hundred yards apart in a wooded area off of Blackhouse Road in Warsaw

61-year-old Thomas Garrett of Carthage - charged with accepting a buck carcass tag of another. Police say Garrett used another's tag that was not lawfully signed over to him while hunting off Gassman Road in Sheldon

57-year-old Melvin Lensenhuber of Warsaw - charged with accepting a buck carcass tag of another and failure to tag a deer as required. Police say Lensenhuber took a buck deer while hunting near Krotz Road in Warsaw and used his wife's tag

52-year-old Darlene Lensenhuber of Warsaw - charged with improper lending of a deer carcass tag

Everyone who was ticketed will appear in their respective town courts at a later date. Troopers and DEC Police warn they will continue to strictly enforce hunting laws through the end of the season and throughout the year.
