NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Wheatfield man has been arrested on charges he created a fake company to defraud investors.

Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour says 33-year-old Robert Blume led investors to believe his bogus business, WNY Emergency Lighting, was based in North Tonawanda and had transactions with the sheriff's office as well as the Town of Wheatfield and other local volunteer fire companies.

Blume agreed to meet with investigators on Wednesday and was charged with three counts of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and one count of third degree grand larceny. Sheriff Voutour says at least one investor lost a substantial amount of money after being duped by false business records.

Blume was taken to the Niagara County Jail on $5,000 bail and will appear in court on December 6.
