Sports bar shooting suspect in custody

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - City and private surveillance cameras were pivotal in capturing a murder suspect, according to Buffalo officials.

On Monday, Mayor Byron Brown held a news conference to announce the arrest of 20-year-old Taire Chaney of Buffalo. Chaney is believed to be the suspect who opened fire outside Pandora's Sports Bar on Fillmore Avenue earlier this month, killing 20-year-old Anthony Pitts and injuring another man.

Chaney was being held in the Erie County Holding Center on a weapons charge when detectives charged him with second degree murder. Investigators believe the March 2nd shooting occurred after an argument inside the bar spilled out onto the street.

Mayor Brown credited the work of police officers and cameras in the area with Chaney being charged, saying, "Since 2006, my administration has added 125 surveillance cameras to the city with 25 more on the way. It is my goal to use everything at our disposal to put away perpetrators of crime."
