Cop found at Dr.'s home suspended

LAKEVIEW, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo Police officer Martin Motley, who is on long-term paid leave, was seen leaving the home of Dr. Timothy Jorden early Wednesday morning.

Motley was leaving the doctor's Lakeview home with about $5,000 in cash, a revolver and a Rolex watch. The revolver was identified as the officer's personal weapon, not his service weapon.

Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said that their investigation into why the officer was there is still ongoing and that there may be some "departmental charges" pending, but would not comment on possible criminal charges.

"Right now, we're just investigating to why he was there. I would not call him an accomplice," Derenda stated.

Thursday morning the manhunt continues for a prominent area surgeon, described as a "person of interest" in Wednesday's deadly shooting at ECMC.

SWAT teams surrounded Dr. Timothy Jorden Jr.'s Lake View home Wednesday, but found it empty. Police returned on Thursday after a report came in that a neighbor heard a gunshot Wednesday morning. K9 units and a police helicopter were searching the area.

Motley was taken into custody and faced intense questioning. He has been suspended without pay from the Buffalo Police Department.

Motley's attorney, Roland Cercone, released the following statement:

"Officer Martin Motley wants it to be clear that he had no knowledge of this impending incident or the current whereabouts of Dr. Timothy Jorden, Jr. In fact, Officer Motley has cooperated fully with the Buffalo Police Department, the Erie County District Attorney's Office and the federal investigators and has offered them full access to his phone and text messages to confirm his lack of involvement.

"In the days prior to this incident, Officer Motley was suspicious about some of the behavior of Dr. Timothy Jorden which included some unusual gift giving. He even inquired of family members to see if Dr. Jorden was okay.

"Then when Officer Motley heard about the shooting Wednesday morning, at ECMC he tried to reach Dr. Jorden by telephone and texting but received no response. Whereupon, being concerned, he drove out to Dr. Jorden's house but could not find him. It was upon leaving the house that he was then stopped by the police and has cooperated fully with all law enforcement authorities.

"Officer Motley's first and foremost concerns and prayers go out to the child, family and friends of Jackie Wisniewski. He also prays for the safe resolution of this matter for Dr. Jorden and his family.

"No further comment will be available due to the ongoing investigation into this matter."
