BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - An 85-year-old man is near death after a wild chain of events on Buffalo's east side.
Police say he was injured after 17-year-old Daryl Smith crashed into a vehicle near East Ferry and Leslie Wednesday night. Police say just a short time earlier, Smith almost struck a police officer while trying to avoid a checkpoint at Walden and Sycamore.
Smith is facing charges of criminal possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawfully attempting to flee an officer in a vehicle, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and imprudent speed. His 16-year-old passenger is charged with criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
