BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Thieves have slammed the brakes on a project to beautify a section of Main Street in Buffalo's Parkside neighborhood.
The Parkside Community Association says over the weekend, someone stole eight historic markers carved in granite from behind a building off Main Street. Crews have already installed 22 of the markers in the sidewalk between Florence and Leroy Avenues. Now there are holes in the sidewalk where the stolen markers were supposed to go.
Assoc. Exec. Director Ben Johnson said, "We can't figure out what the resale value is or what the purpose is. I don't see any value to them other that being involved in the sidewalk. So we're reaching out trying to see if anybody knows anything about this, if they could return them no questions ask. We just want them back."
The Parkside Community Association says it can't afford to replace $4,200 worth of stolen material.
