BATH, N.Y. (WIVB) - A New York State Police trooper suffered non-life threatening injuries Thursday, after the helicopter he was piloting made a hard landing.
The State Police say around 10:30 a.m., the pilot was returning from a search for a missing person when there was an in-flight mechanical emergency. Police say 41-year-old Trooper Thomas Shultz, a highly trained and experienced Army combat pilot, made a controlled powerless descent and landed hard. He was taken to Strong Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the incident is under investigation. Trooper Shultz was returning from a search for a missing woman. Twenty-eight-year-old Melissa Sherry of Hammondsport was found dead Thursday morning in a field.
