RIDGEWAY, N.Y. (WIVB) - Two Orleans County men have been charged with arson for allegedly setting fire to a vacant, abandoned home in the Town of Ridgeway.
The Orleans County Sheriff's Office says Thursday night, 21-year-old Edward Schneider, III and 20-year-old Christopher Swan, both of Medina, set fire at a two-story home on Ridge Road. By the time firefighters arrived around 6:15 p.m., the house was fully engulfed and was a total loss.
Both men are charged with third degree arson, as well as second degree assault. The assault charge steams from an injury sustained by a firefighter who helped battle the blaze.
The house has been vacant for three years and belonged to Schneider's mother. After being arraigned, both suspects were released and will appear in court at a later date.
