ELMA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Two men were arrested after allegedly trying to steal scrap metal from a restaurant on Transit Road in Elma.
Troopers spotted a vehicle pulling out of the parking lot of The Cove around 3 a.m. Monday morning after the business was already closed for the evening. Upon stopping the vehicle, police say they found scrap metal in the back of the car.
The two men inside stated they had permission from the owner of the business to take it. State Police contacted the owner, who stated no one had permission to remove anything from the property.
David Tanyi, 24, and Jason Meyer, 24, both of Depew were arrested and charged with petit larceny and trespass.
Both will appear in Town of Elma Court at a later date.
