TUSCARORA INDIAN RESERVATION (WIVB) - A man walking down a dark road on The Tuscarora Indian Reservation met a tragic death, killed by a hit-and-run driver, and the victim's brother was one of the first responders on the scene.

Police are working to find the driver who left Loren Jacobs, moaning and motionless on the side of the road around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. The hit-and-run happened in front of his sister's home, an image forever ingrained in their memories.

As part of the Sanborn Fire Company, Roy Jacobs responded to the scene, only to find it was his brother who had been severely injured.

Roy said he told his brother, "Everything will be all right."

At 59-years-old, Loren was left for dead on the side of Mount Hope Road. The driver took off, leaving him moaning from the pain, right in front of his sister Linda's home.

"To just hit someone and leave them there...," said Roy.

Town of Lewiston Police are now hunting for the driver who sped away. Sgt. Frank Previte says the light-colored car with a loud muffler has damage in the front or on the passenger side.

Sgt. Previte added, "Our heart goes out to the family for the victim and his family and obviously we're doing anything we can to locate the vehicle involved in this."

Loren did not survive, succombing to his injuries early Thursday morning after having been flown to ECMC for treatment.

Roy says at the scene, he was overcome with a vision of Loren laying on the ground with his niece, who was holding and comforting him. Roy paced into the brush where he had seen the vision, and found his brother's glasses that had flown off from the impact.

Police tell News 4 they've received a couple of tips, but need help to find the driver, who left the scene of this deadly accident. If you have any information call Lewiston Police at 754-8477 or 438-3393.
