AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Police say the victim of a scam should have looked in the box before handing over any money.
On September 14th in the University Plaza, Amherst Police say two suspects approached the victim, offering to sell an iPad that was inside a sealed box. The victim handed over the money, and the suspects made a quick exit. Police say the victim quickly realized the box was too light and when it was opened, newspaper was all that was stuffed inside.
Police describe the first suspect as a black man around 5'7" and 160 pounds. He was wearing a white baseball cap, a light blue polo and plaid shorts. The second suspect is described as a black man around 6' tall and 220 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt, dark jeans and a dark cap.
Police say the suspects fled in a black Jeep Cherokee, possibly a 2003 model, with low profile tires with three-spoke chrome rims.
Anyone with any information on this crime or any similar incidents should called detectives at 689-1360.
