Wisniewski did not report abuse to ECMC

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - After an internal investigation, ECMC has determined that a receptionist murdered by a doctor on their campus had never made any complaints to her supervisors, human resources, or the hospital's employee assistance program.

Last week, trauma surgeon Dr. Timothy Jorden walked into the Miller building and murdered single mother Jackie Wisniewski, shooting her five times in the head. Jorden fled and later committed suicide alongside 18-Mile Creek near his Lakeview home.

Wisniewski's close friend told News 4 that Wisniewski had confided in her tales of abuse, such as being held captive by Jorden as he wielded a knife and Jorden placing a GPS device on her car. News 4 also learned that Jorden had previous domestic cases with another woman and that Wisniewski had complained to police about Jorden, but did not pursue charges.

The statement released by ECMC on Tuesday, detailing that no complaints were made by Wisniewski at the hospital, was the result of an internal investigation launched by CEO Jody Lomeo. He said, in part, "ECMC worked hard to train employees extensively in the last two years about workplace violence and has a system to handle anonymous employee complaints. That system worked effectively in the past with abusive employees. A thorough review of that system found no employee reports from anyone about this situation."

Lomeo continued, "It is very difficult for anyone to individually predict that this type of heinous act would occur. We hope and believe that if anyone had information suggesting that harm was imminent, he or she would have come forward. Although our investigation continues, and it appears that other organizations and individuals may have been better informed, our search of records suggests that ECMC was not alerted to the existence of this abusive relationship."
