BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Prosecutors say a western New York woman has been convicted of attempted murder, assault and burglary after breaking into a man's apartment and stabbing him nine times while being urged on by her boyfriend.
Sheila Kowal faces up to 25 years in prison after her conviction in Erie County Court Tuesday.
The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Kowal broke into a Lackawanna apartment last November and repeatedly stabbed Craig Holmes as her boyfriend accomplice encouraged her to kill him.
At her weeklong trial, prosecutors attacked Kowal's claims the stabbing was in self-defense, noting she broke into the victim's apartment and stabbed him in the back.
Kowal's boyfriend, Jeremy Maier, also was arrested and has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges. He goes on trial next week.
