Woman indicted over false tax returns

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Hamburg woman has been indicted on charges she stole the social security numbers of seven family members and friends to file false tax returns.

Sheri Becirovic, 46, has been indicted on 17 counts, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to file fraudulent tax returns, filing a fraudulent tax return, misuse of social security numbers, and aggravated identity theft.

The U.S. Attorney's Office alleges Becirovic obtained the social security numbers and, along with a co-conspirator, used them to file false tax returns in 2011.

If Becirovic is found guilty, she could face up to 20 years in prison.
