Orchard Park, N.Y. - Erie Community College helps its students learn so they can earn.

On Monday the college's president announced it's pushing services to give some extra help to those who have served their country.

That will include free tuition for veterans.

College President Jack Quinn made the announcement Monday morning during a ceremony to honor vets, at E-C-C's Orchard Park Campus.

It's called the Veterans Initiative.

Quinn says the college does a lot for the nation's veterans.. but few people know about the services.

The initiative is about providing better access to those services.

Quinn says vets coming back to western New York from overseas need to be educated and trained for the homefront workforce.

"Some of the support services to our veterans, when they call this number, transitioning services for members of the military, and assistance with career planning, training, and job search," said Jack Quinn, president, Erie Community College.

"Veterans have always stood ready to serve their country.  I want to make it clear that ECC stands ready to serve our veterans," Quinn added.

Vets can call the campus at a special number, (716) 851-1124.  ECC has about 450 enrolled veterans out of a total enrollment of about 13,000.
