BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Dozens of UB students will be returning home from Spring break to a very unwelcome surprise when they find their dorms were the target of a string of robberies.
UB is just finishing up that week-long break so police won't know exactly how much was stolen until the students return. Here's what we know so far.
29 dorm rooms were broken into on Tuesday. Some were in MacDonald Hall and some were in Goodyear Hall on the South Campus. In fact, in Goodyear Hall is where the volunteers from alternative Spring break have been staying for the whole week on the tenth floor as they volunteered at various places around western New York. None of them knew much about this or wanted to comment about it.
Everyone seems pretty tight-lipped about this. The university is not doing any interviews and neither is University Police because they don't want to hinder the investigation.
The police are watching the building and there is a surveillance camera outside and we're told there's a surveillance camera in the lobby, but other than that, it doesn't appear there are many surveillance cameras inside. We don't know how much security is inside though the break-ins were discovered on a routine security check.
