BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Teachers at a local charter school took their fight for a union to the streets.
Teachers from Buffalo United Charter School rallied across from the school. They've voted twice in the past year to unionize, but the board has refused to recognize the union. Teachers have lost one round in court, but vow to continue their fight to unionize.
Buffalo United Charter School teacher Barb Coogan said, "We want what every other NYS teacher has. We have the same education as every other teacher in the state, we are highly qualified, we're professionals, and we want the same respect that everyone else has."
The School's Board President released this statement saying, "We understand there are different opinions about public education, but for us, above everything else, it's about preparing children for success in high school, college, and beyond."
