DuPont chemical explosion kills worker

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A chemical explosion at the DuPont plant in the Town of Tonawanda, has left one person dead.

An outside contractor has died, and another has been injured with burns. The chemical is contained, and poses no threat to the community. Town of Tonawanda Police say, residents are safe to go outside. According to police, there are no evacuations that they know of.

Numerous authorities, including OSHA and the DEC, are on the scene. OSHA reports there was an unknown chemical in an empty tank that was being worked on. Workers were welding supports to the large container tank when it exploded.
