HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) - Southwestern Boulevard at Pleasant Avenue in Hamburg was shut down for three hours Thursday evening after a fatal crash.
The accident happened around 5:15 p.m. Police say 62-year-old Laurence Karmel was traveling east on Southwestern when he crossed the double line into the path of a dump truck, colliding with it head-on. A third vehicle that was traveling east then struck Karmel's vehicle from behind.
Karmel was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say three other people involved in the crash were not seriously hurt.
Investigators are still determining what caused Karmel to leave his lane. An autopsy will be performed.
No traffic tickets were issued in the crash.
