ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - A group of Orchard Park elementary students are trying to make a difference in our community.

Six girls, all 5th grade students from Windom Elementary, created a fundraising group called "Community Helping Hands." On Tuesday, the YWCA of Western New York became the first recipient of a donation from the group. They presented the YWCA with over $200.

Aviya Distefano said, "With all the budget cuts and stuff, and some programs are in need of money, and there's very important programs out there that are needed in western New York."

Windom Elementary Principal Wendy Gloss said, "These girls exemplify exactly what it is we try to get through to kids every single day when they walk through the front doors."

The group plans to raise money for other community organizations in the future.
