Fast food employee quits in public way

DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) - A frustrated fast-food employee took a parting shot at his manager with a smiley face and a four-letter word.

You won't see the bold statement on the sign anymore. Apparently, a motorist saw what they described as a "vulgar message in lights" Thursday night, and called police. Shortly after a Cheektowaga officer notified the restaurant, it was taken down. However, people are still talking.

There's no message on the KFC/Taco Bell sign now, but overnight it appears a disgruntled employee found an interesting way to tell his manager he wouldn't be in anymore. The employee wrote on the sign, "I quit - Adam. **** :)"

We're still trying to find out if "Adam" was the intended target, or the author of the message. Regardless, the bold statement generated a lot of talk.

Tony Guizzotti said, "There's many times I'd like to say something like that especially as an employee, but it could hurt him down the road."

John Gondek said, "Guy's got guts to do it."

A young man, who identified himself as the former Taco Bell worker, called News 4 hours after the image was posted and spread rapidly over the internet. He claimed he quit after allegedly working 22 days straight, including the Fourth of July. True or not, something obviously got to him, and nearly everyone seemed to identify.

Andy Szymanski said, "I work at a place that does the same thing, work a lot, straight. Sometimes you wonder if they appreciate it."

Ron Starr said, "I quit a job like that, walked right out. It's against the law to work anyone like that."

We tried to track down the disgruntled worker to talk further, and when I found his apartment, he wasn't in. His neighbor feels for him.

Cash Wesolowski said, "They're not appreciated because they work all these hours and the boss won't give em a day off. It's not right at all."

Managers declined to comment and referred all inquiries about the matter to corporate headquarters. Those calls went unanswered. The restaurant carried on, business as usual, leaving some to wonder what, if anything, happened inside.

At this time, Cheektowaga Police have not been called in to investigate, but noted that similar incidents have resulted in trespassing charges, or potential tampering with property.
