BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A former sergeant, fired from the Erie County Holding Center, could be getting his job back.

Thomas Thompson was let go after being accused of lying to investigators about the punching of an inmate last year. Now, a State Supreme Court Justice ruled Thompson can be rehired at a lower rank of deputy. This came following an arbitrator's decision.

Sheriff Timothy Howard sought to uphold the firing. Howard has faced criticism and lawsuits over jail conditions.
