BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Countless stories of courage and strength have been shared over the last decade.
In this family tribute to Sean and Beverly, their love for one another and the quality of the life they shared together will always be part of their legacy.
When Sean became trapped on the 105th floor after the second World Trade Center Tower was attacked, Beverly was on the phone with him, right up until the end of his life.
"When we were at the very end of the phone conversation, and we were dealing with the situation, imminent, that he said: "Give my love to everyone," said Beverly Eckert in September 2001.
>> In an interview with Storycorps, Beverly shared her memories about 9/11
That was his way, said his loved ones, always thinking of others.
Beverly became active in lobbying for better compensation for the families of 9/11 victims , and ironically wanted the airlines held responsible for any possible negligence. She believed families would be severely limited in their ability to sue.
"You know, we were victimized again..." said Eckert in December of 2001.
Beverly Eckert became a victim of the crash of Flight 3407 in February of 2009.
She had been on her way to Buffalo to award a scholarship at Canisius High School in Sean's memory.
Sean had given her the strength to go on with her life.
In February of 2009, Beverly's Sister, Karen Eckert said, "She said Sean faced death with such calm courage, and it calmed her."
So then, it was Beverly's strength and courage that enabled her loved ones to follow her example.
"Allowing us to follow. I keep thinking: "How did Beverly do this?" I know how she did this, and she gave us a gift. She was not afraid of death," added Karen Eckert in 2009.
Her courage and passion for life were recognized by President Obama, who had called her to the White House to discuss the needs of 9/11 families, just days before the crash in Clarence.
In February of 2009, President Barack Obama said, "She was on her way to Buffalo to mark what would have been her husband's birthday and launch a scholarship in his memory, so she was an inspiration to me and to so many others, and I pray that her family finds peace and comfort in the hard days ahead."
