BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Congressman Brian Higgins is giving Bass Pro Outdoor Stores 14 days to sign the lease agreement on Buffalo's waterfront, or he will insist that the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation move forward without Bass Pro's involvement.
Higgins says, Buffalo is running out of patience and that Bass Pro has had the lease agreement now for two months.
A letter went out Monday to Bass Pro CEO Johnny Morris and Bass Pro President Jim Hagle.
Also on Monday, the City announced a deal to transfer 10 acres of land to the Harbor Development Corporation for $7.5 million. However, the Common Council hasn't approved the land transfer yet .
Senior Correspondent Rich Newberg has learned that the ultimatum requires Bass Pro to act expeditiously or alternative arrangements will be made on the waterfront.
The congressman does suggest that Bass Pro would be an important asset on the waterfront, but he is calling for action on the lease within the next fourteen days.
News 4 has reached Bass Pro spokesman Larry Whiteley who said regarding the letter, "We will look it over and we will make a decision one way or another within the next fourteen days."
