Man sent behind bars for brutal beating

SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Cheektowaga man learned his fate for a brutal attack on a gay man.

Joshua Holts was convicted of assault and will now spend four years behind bars and three years on probation.

Judge Thomas Franczyk says while it wasn't a hate crime, there were certainly elements of hate as he sentenced Joshua Holts to four years behind bars.

The incident happened in Springville back in July of 2008, and was caught on surveillance video outside Casey's Bar.

His mother and sister both spoke in court because Wright, who lives in Georgia, recently had surgery and couldn't make it back.

Prior to sentencing, Joshua Holts apologized to Scott's family and said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I had too much to drink and made some bad decisions based on that and I am sorry for," said Holts.

Scott Wright has had four surgeries since the attack and has one more scheduled for October.

His mother says there is permanent damage to her son's face.
