DARIEN CENTER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Darien Lake Theme Park is closing the Ride of Steel for the rest of the season, because of repairs requiring customized parts.
The park will be open daily until September 5th, and on weekends through October 9th.
Darien Lake GM Christopher Thorpe released the following statement:
"While we regret to inform our guests that the roller coaster will be down for the remainder of the season, we still have a large variety of rides and attractions for guests of all ages to enjoy."
The Ride of Steel has been the focus of a lot of attention during their summer 2011 season. An Iraq war veteran died after falling of the ride and about a month later, the chain snapped while the cars were halfway up the track and the ride stopped like it was supposed to, letting the passengers walk down safely.
