WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - A week from Tuesday, Williamsville residents will vote on whether or not to dissolve their village government. But many are still trying to learn what will happen, if they do.
Right now it's still unclear exactly what will happen.
The activist pushing to dissolve the government says it will save taxpayer's money, but Monday morning some residents still have their doubts.
The downsizing movement that's sweeping through western New York has landed in Williamsville.
One week from Tuesday, approximately 5.500 taxpayers will have the option to vote on whether to dissolve their government.
Frank and Sarah Mischler, who have lived here for 56 years, will vote against it.
"It's a small local government, but when you dissolve the village you run into other special districts and more government not less government," said Frank Mischler.
The mayor says the Village of Williamsville actually crosses into two towns.
So if their government is dissolved, it could become part of Amherst and Cheektowaga.
"I know there's that argument that it's just village government that would dissolve and not the village itself. But the government is really the glue that holds our community together," said Amy Alexander of Friends of the Village of Williamsville.
Dissolution Activist Kevin Gaughan said, "Here in the Village of Williamsville it costs taxpayers$4.7 million, we don't have the level of resources to pay for that level of government."
Gaughan says saving you money is his mission.
