Woman sues over wrongful imprisonment

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Erie County, the city of Buffalo, and the Buffalo Police Department are facing a $30 million lawsuit.

Lynn DeJac Peters is seeking damages for wrongful incarceration for the murder of her 13-year-old daughter, Crystallyn Girard. Peters was convicted in April 1994 of murdering her daughter. She was imprisoned until November 2007 when the conviction was overturned.

Peters and her attorney, Steve Cohen, will be filing the papers Wednesday afternoon seeking $20 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages.
