WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - A massage parlor in Clarence was busted for prostitution on Tuesday. An upscale spa of the same name operates in Williamsville, and the bust has led to some raunchy requests at the legitimate business.
Green Spa in Clarence was raided, but another massage business on Main Street in Williamsville unfortunately has the exact same name.
Williamsville Green Spa owner Joei Lucey said, "I'm just so completely concerned about my clients, potential clients that walk by here that see our name is Green Spa. We're completely legitimate, professional."
Tuesday the Erie County Sheriff's Office arrested a 53-year-old Chinese national. She's accused of offering an undercover officer a sex act for money.
Since the arrest, many have called the legitimate Green Spa wondering what was going on and whether it was their shop that was raided.
"Even friends saying, 'What is going on over there?' Clients saying, 'I just bought a Groupon or a Living Social and I don't think I want to come in right now because of what happened,' and I have to say, 'No, no, no, that's not us.' And I'm trying to let people know that we are in no way affiliated," Lucey explained.
Lucey took over the spa just four months ago and says she's always wanted to change the name. Now she has a reason to.
"I have to change it. It's going to be Village Holistic and Organic Spa, and I'm kind of excited about that, but having to do it in this manner and for this reason isn't the best," Lucey said.
Alleged sex acts aside, massage therapists worry about people going to just anyone to get treatment.
Licensed Massage Therapist Brittany Bingold explained, "You can do huge damage if you don't know what you're doing. And if those people have never had any education about muscles and how the brain and spine works and they're working on you, they can really screw something up."
The legitimate Green Spa is holding was planning on holding a Grand Re-Opening Thursday to note the change in ownership. Now with the planned name change, they'll have to have a Re-Grand-Re-Opening in a couple of months.
