SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - A former Olympic equestrian from Springville who has fungal meningitis and contracted MRSA while in the hospital is reaching out to fans to let them know he's feeling much better.
Darren Chiacchia has been in Buffalo General Hospital receiving treatment for about a week. He was on the bronze-medal winning team at the 2004 Olympic Games and was critically injured in a riding accident in 2008.
On Wednesday, he posted to Facebook: "Good Morning friends! Thank you for all the good wishes! I am at Buffalo General for those that have asked, unfortunately, I can still not have visitors for a few more days. I was up early and found a hospital computer! Feeling much better this morning! Meningitis, who'd a thunk it? To top it off my phone is "misplaced" the first night I am in the hospital! Hopefully will have that remedied today."
While he's in the hospital, staff are keeping his farms in Springville and Ocala, Florida up and running.
