Corasanti's BMW for sale at area dealer

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - UPDATE: Corasanti's BMW is no longer for sale

The BMW that Dr. James Corasanti was driving the night he struck and killed Alix Rice in July 2011 is now up for sale at a dealership in western New York.

It was last may when prosecutors re-assembled most of the car's front end so jurors in Corsanti's manslaughter case could see the damage. Now the 2010 BMW 750 is ready to roll off the lot at Jim Ball on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park.

Attorney for the Rice family Lawlor Quinlan said, "[Car dealers are] not required to disclose that it's been in an accident or that it was used in the commission of a crime."

Quinlan is representing the Rice family in a civil lawsuit against Corasanti. He confirmed the VIN number on the car for sale matches the VIN number on the car Corasanti once owned.

"I imagine he's just trying to recoup some cost on the car. He certainly can't drive it since he's in prison, so I'm not surprised he's trying to sell the car," Quinlan said.

According to Jim Ball's website, the car is advertised as "the car you've been trying to find" with only 17,000-miles. The sticker price: $63,000.

Throughout the case, it was widely known that Corasanti's car would ultimately be sold. None of the lawyers representing Corasanti would comment, nor would anyone from Jim Ball.

Nowhere online does it list that the car was involved in a deadly accident, and the dealer isn't legally responsible to report that information.

But the Carfax report shows the vehicle was involved in an accident on July 8, 2011, the same day Alix Rice was hit and killed on Heim Road. An Autocheck report notes the accident on that day involved a pedestrian.

"They may just see pedestrian accident and not know that it's this accident, the biggest accident in the past few years in western New York," Quinlan said, adding that in NYS, it's buyer beware.

Corasanti was acquitted of manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter. He is currently serving a one-year prison sentence for misdemeanor drunk driving.
