Deal reached on Domestic Violence Court

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita has settled a dispute over the handling of misdemeanor and violation cases in the Integrated Domestic Violence Court.

News 4 reported on the disagreement between the court and the DA two weeks ago. Sedita did not want two prosecutors tied up in the court and had refused to prosecute cases.

The new agreement lays out a plan for the court to present the criminal aspects of a domestic violence case first so it can be addressed by one prosecutor from the DA's office. The other issues, such as child custody, the DA's office will not be involved with.

The second prosecutor that had been assigned to the court will now be moved to work on sex offense crimes.

As part of the compromise, the court is withdrawing an order to appoint a special prosecutor.
