CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Bridges carry bikes and pedestrians alongside the busy Kensington Expressway in Cheektowaga.

They've stood on the sides of Route 33 over the mainline thruway for 44 years. Wednesday night, state transportation officials invited neighbors to help them determine if the bridges should be replaced, fixed, or just torn down. They emphasize: there's no imminent danger there.

Senior Transportation Analyst Christopher Church explained, "The stairs and the beam are all one piece of concrete, cracked on the corners where the piers are, and the steel frame is at, more at an inner location so it's where the concrete is still sound."

He adds any recommendations would not be implemented for up to three years.
