ATTICA, N.Y. (WIVB) - After a week-and-a-half of emergency rescue efforts, Erie County SPCA personnel will be leaving the Wyoming County SPCA shelter on Friday.

As many as 30 volunteers and paid staff from Erie County assisted NYS Police in rescuing more than 500 cats that were in horrible conditions, according to those coming to their aid. It is hoped all the cats will be placed with animal rescue groups and in homes when Erie County personnel pull out. Any cats left in the shelter in Attica become the responsibility of NYS Police, which led the raid on the shelter.

On Friday at 9 a.m., the cat adoption center at the Eastern Hills Mall, formerly operated by the Wyoming County SPCA, will re-open under the direction of the Erie County SPCA.

Executive Director Barbara Carr tells News 4 the Erie County SPCA has never had a more costly emergency than the one in Wyoming County.
