GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) - There's a bump in the road for drivers who use EZ Pass on Grand Island.
The Thruway Authority is shutting down the only EZ Pass walk-in center on Grand Island on June 8th. That means folks there can only access their EZ Pass accounts on the internet or over the phone.
Grand Island Supervisor Mary Cooke says that's going to cause a major headache.
"We're not saying don't close it at all. We understand that money needs to be saved. However, don't close it until you have a viable option for people who do not have computer access, and do not have credit cards, and do not have or wish to send a check to Albany for their EZ Pass reloading," she argued.
The Thruway Authority is also closing walk-in centers in Albany and Syracuse. The closures are expected to save about $1 million a year.
