SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - Wind and snow moved across western New York Thursday, leaving slick roads and downed power lines in its wake.
Visibility was down to a quarter of a mile or less as several lake effect snow bands moved across the region, dropping large amounts of snow very quickly over each town they passed. People out on the roads would frequently hit white-out conditions, followed by clear visibility once they were out from underneath the snow band.
Southern Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties took the brunt of the snow. At 5:30 p.m., the storm began to roll in off the lake, creating huge waves in Hamburg where the sustained 30 MPH winds were so strong, it literally pulled fish out of water and onto dry land.
That wind posed a serious problem for truckers, many of which were forced to stop for the night.
