CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Hotel guests got a rude awakening Tuesday night, as fire alarms forced them from their beds. Around 10:30 p.m. guests of the Days Inn heard fire alarms going off, and were forced to evacuate the building.
According to firefighters, there was a drier fire in the laundry room. It forced guests at the Genesee Street hotel to leave their warm rooms and go out into the cold night air.
One of the guests from Ontario said when the alarm went off, it definitely caught him off guard. Hamilton resident Robert Winninger said, “We thought maybe it was a prank, that people pulled the alarms, so we went out looking around. But when we walked towards the center of the building, all of a sudden you could smell the smoke and so people started moving out pretty quick.”
The fire was contained to just the laundry room. The hotel was vented and guests were allowed back in within a couple hours of the incident.
